Ocean energy (wave and tidal) is an emerging opportunity in which British Columbia maintains an extraordinary strategic advantage. British Columbia is the one jurisdiction that possesses the two noted areas below required to design, construct and deploy ocean energy technologies:
- The best natural wave energy and tidal energy resources in the world
- Highly developed industrial value chain (already existing in our traditional Ocean Sector).
BCIC is instrumental in the development of this emerging energy through its early and continued support in the creation and operation of Canada's ocean industry organization, Ocean Renewable Energy Group (OREG), and in the support of applied research in the rapid development of ocean energy technologies.
